چکیده

This paper presents a novel approach for detecting ridge-ravine lines on dense triangular meshes. We first retile the original mesh into to a simplified domain mesh. An arbitrary smooth parametric surface is constructed defined on the domain mesh. Ridges and ravines are then accurately and efficiently computed and detected using the smooth parameteric function. Our approach treats shape noise by simplifying the mesh into its domain mesh. Our method is fast, flexible, robust to noise, and invariant to geometric transformations. We demonstrate the superiority of our approach by experimental results.

A Robust Strucutural Fingerprint Restoration

Fast and accurate ridge detection in fingerprints is essential to each AFIS (Automatic Fingerprint Identification System). Smudged furrows and cut ridges in the image of a finger print are major problems in any AFIS. This paper investigates a new online ridge detection method that reduces the complexity and costs associated with the fingerprint identification procedure. The noise in fingerprint...

Parametric B-spline snakes on distance maps - Application to segmentation of histology images

We construct parametric active contours (snakes) for outlining cells in histology images. These snakes are defined in terms of cubic B-spline basis functions. We use a steerable ridge detector for obtaining a reliable map of the cell boundaries. Using the contour information thus obtained, we compute a distance map and specify it as one of the snake energies. To ensure smooth contours, we also ...

Massively Parallel Approximation of Irregular Triangular Meshes with G¹ Parametric Surfaces

A new data-parallel algorithm for reconstructing smooth surfaces defined by arbitrary 3D triangular meshes is presented. The obtained surfaces are composed of triangular patches that join with first order geometric continuity. Every patch is generated by a parametric function that approximates the vertices of each control triangle of the mesh. A coarse granularity implementation of those functi...

Smooth parametric surfaces retrieval from triangular meshes using RBFs

Quality of physically-based simulation mostly relies upon qualities of the geometrical model of the entities involved. Particularly, Lagrangian formalism (which we focus on since several years) claims for continuous and smooth descriptors. Our current project aims a precise Lagrangian knee kinematics model. The studied knee model has been chosen as built up from actual bones geometries and liga...

Signed distance fields for polygon soup meshes

Many meshes in computer animation practice are meant to approximate solid objects, but the provided triangular geometry is often unoriented, non-manifold or contains self-intersections, causing inside/outside of objects to be mathematically ill-defined. We describe a robust and efficient automatic approach to define and compute a signed distance field for arbitrary triangular geometry. Starting...
